Check Your Eligibility for a New Business Account
You can use our online referral service if you are a director, partner, sole trader, authorised representative of a charity, or an authorised representative of another eligible organisation. All directors, partners, owners, trustees, and signatories must meet the following requirements:
- Resident in Guernsey, Alderney & Sark, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
- Aged 18 or over
- Contactable via a local Channel Islands or Isle of Man mobile number
- Willing to receive information by post, text, and email during the account opening process

- Limited companies
- Partnerships (including limited liability partnerships)
- Sole traders
- Charities
Business and Organisation Criteria
Your business or organisation must:
- Be a trading entity or registered charity (limited company, partnership, sole trader or charity)
- Operate as a domestic trading business or organisation, with its main activities and principal place of business in Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
- Be registered in Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man (where applicable)
- Conduct its primary activity within the island of registration (overseas trading or fundraising is permitted, but must not be the main focus)
- Have an annual turnover below £10 million
If you wish to enquire for an account for a business with a turnover of more than £10 million, please contact ciiom.business.banking@hsbc.com who will be able to help you further.
- Use the account as its main operating current account
- Be owned by individuals or another locally registered company, with ultimate beneficial owners’ resident in Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
- Not be owned or controlled by a nominee company, group structure, institution, or offshore holding structure
- Not be regulated by the GFSC, JFSC, or IOMFSA, nor act as an appointed representative of a regulated firm
Additional Charity Requirements
If you are applying for a charity, the organisation must also:
- Be registered with the relevant charity regulator in Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
- Operate primarily for the benefit of the island where it is registered
- Have a clearly defined charitable purpose
- Ensure all key controllers, trustees, and authorised signatories are resident in Guernsey, Jersey, or the Isle of Man
- Not conduct overseas activity beyond incidental fundraising or support aligned to its charitable purpose
Sanctions and Restricted Activities
Your business, charity, or organisation must not:
- Be owned or controlled by individuals, entities, organisations, or governments subject to sanctions imposed by the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, United Kingdom, United Nations, European Union, United States, or any relevant local authority
- Trade with, operate in, or make payments connected to jurisdictions subject to HSBC sanctions restrictions or applicable sanctions regimes
- Be connected to any individuals, entities, organisations, or governments subject to sanctions
- Manufacture, sell, supply, export, re-export, import, transfer, transport, or distribute any goods listed in the HSBC Sanctions Policy Critical Goods List
- Export goods, software, technology, or services that require authorisation or a licence from a competent authority
If your business, charity, or organisation does not meet these criteria, we may not be able to offer you an account through this referral process.
By submitting your referral, you confirm that all the above statements are true and accurate for yourself, any other signatories, and your business, charity, or organisation.
Once we receive your enquiry, one of our Business Banking Managers will contact you within 5 working days to discuss your requirements further. All fields are mandatory and account opening typically takes between 8 to 10 weeks.
Please note: The account opening process is primarily digital. All meetings and discussions will take place over the phone or via SmartServe. In some cases, you may be asked to drop off specific documents at a branch.
